OUR HISTORY
FROM A BASEMENT IN VÄSTERÅS
Like Harley Davidson, Amazon, Apple and other companies, Knivnet & Garderoben also started in a basement. The year was 1982 and the place Västerås. The wardrobe has humble beginnings and sells passports and military surplus, used as well as new, with a particular focus on mail order. The company flourishes and moves to Halstahammar in 1988. Garderoben is a future-oriented industry leader and already in 1999 Garderoben's online store is up and running.
In 2003, Khan buys the company and begins a modernization by selling the surplus material, renewing and expanding the product range and moving the business to Tegnérgatan 20 in Stockholm. The company is growing like crazy and the store on Tegnérgatan is becoming a popular destination with visitors from all over the world.
Over the years, customers and fans multiply, and the staff increases. In 2010, Khan decides to retire and sells the company.
THE RETURN
In 2014, the new owners wish to sell Garderoben, which Khan notices and decides to once again run the company. What makes Khan do this? What makes former employees seek to return to the company? Adventure. Garderoben has always been an exciting company where unusual products and fascinating human destinies meet. People who for many years have relied on Garderoben for their own adventures.
Whether it's a garage, a basement, or a dorm room, every business has humble beginnings. It's not about where you start, but where you end up.
